The Role

The Category Manager – Bakery & Hot Food is responsible for developing and managing a premium range of prepared foods that deliver exceptional value to our customers. You will lead the strategic direction and sustainable performance of key categories, including Bakery, Hot Food, Pizza, and Sushi, ensuring that our “Fresh To Go” offerings remain a market leader in quality and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Range & Menu Development

  • Category Leadership: Define and lead the long-term strategy for prepared food categories to drive growth and market share.

  • Menu Innovation: Develop innovative, customer-focused product ranges and menus that align with evolving food trends.

  • Commercial Targets: Take full ownership of delivering sales, margin, and stock turnover targets.

  • Cost Management: Manage precise recipe costing and portion control to safeguard profitability and minimize waste.

Sourcing & Supplier Management

  • Ingredient Sourcing: Build and manage strategic partnerships with suppliers for high-quality ingredients and finished goods.

  • Negotiation: Lead commercial negotiations and manage ongoing supplier performance to ensure consistency and value.

Operational Excellence & Merchandising

  • Quality Standards: Maintain rigorous standards for product quality, freshness, and visual presentation.

  • Execution: Define and monitor in-store merchandising and execution standards to enhance the customer shopping experience.

  • Performance Optimization: Regularly monitor category performance to optimize range, pricing, and promotional activities.

Leadership

  • Team Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing commercial team, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.


Candidate Profile

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Commercial Acumen: Strong financial and commercial understanding with a track record of driving profitable results.

  • Industry Background: Proven experience in prepared food, FMCG, or retail categories is essential.

  • Culinary Insight: A strong understanding of product development, recipe costing, and current food trends.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to manage complex margins and evaluate supplier performance through data.

  • Customer Focus: Deeply focused on understanding customer needs and translating market insights into successful product ranges.
