The Role
The Junior Associate – Shipping Operations is responsible for the seamless coordination of inward cargo processes. This role requires high attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage time-sensitive documentation between customers, port authorities, and customs.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Communication

Inquiry Management: Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries via phone and email.

Notifications: Ensure accurate cargo arrival notices are dispatched to clients without delay.
Manifesting & Documentation

Inward Manifests: Finalize inward cargo manifests and coordinate directly with Main Line Operators (MLOs) for accurate customs reporting.

Systems Management: Update cargo systems and generate Delivery Orders (DO) upon thorough verification of payments and documents.

Filing: Maintain a systematic filing process for delivery orders, bank guarantees, and other critical shipping documents.
Compliance & Coordination

Regulatory Submission: Submit timely and accurate cargo details to Sri Lanka Customs and the Ports Authority to facilitate smooth clearance.

Cargo Identification: Correctly identify special cargo types (e.g., transshipments, groupage) and notify relevant parties to prevent unnecessary demurrage or extra charges.

Field Support: Deliver essential documents or payments to port and customs offices when operational needs arise.
Candidate Profile
Education & Qualifications:

Academic Background: Undergraduate or Graduate in Supply Chain and Logistics from CINEC, SLIIT, KDU, or an equivalent recognized institution.

Foundational Education: Minimum of 6 passes at GCE O/L, including a “C” grade in Mathematics.
Skills & Competencies:

Technical Skills: Proficient in the MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with a focus on reporting and data analysis.

Operational Agility: Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet strict deadlines within a fast-paced environment.

Precision: High level of accuracy in document verification and data entry.
