About the Role

The Assistant Manager – Market Insights & Analytics will support and drive the company’s fuel trading and hedging strategy by providing data-driven market insights, executing buy/sell decisions, and managing price risk exposure. This role plays a critical part in optimizing financial margins through effective commodity trading, derivative hedging strategies, and proactive market intelligence within the marine fuel (bunkering) business.


Job Responsibilities

1. Market Analysis & Intelligence

  • Monitor and track global oil and marine fuel markets (e.g., Brent, WTI, Singapore Gasoil, and VLSFO trends).

  • Analyze global supply-demand dynamics, geopolitical developments, and macroeconomic indicators impacting fuel prices.

  • Generate comprehensive daily and weekly market reports featuring actionable insights and price outlook forecasts.

2. Trading Decision Support

  • Recommend optimal buy/sell timing and strategies for bulk bunker fuel procurement and commercial sales.

  • Support strategic pricing decisions for customer quotations based on real-time global market movements.

  • Identify potential arbitrage opportunities and margin optimization strategies.

3. Hedging & Risk Management

  • Develop, refine, and implement hedging strategies using financial derivatives (e.g., swaps, futures, and options).

  • Continuously monitor the company’s exposure to price volatility and recommend timely risk mitigation actions.

  • Track overall hedge effectiveness and ensure strict alignment with the company’s defined risk appetite.

4. Trade Execution & Coordination

  • Assist in executing paper and physical trades in strict accordance with approved corporate strategies and risk limits.

  • Ensure proper transaction documentation and total compliance with internal financial controls.

5. Performance Tracking & Reporting

  • Analyze historical trading performance, commercial margins, and operational hedge outcomes.

  • Prepare detailed reports on the Profit & Loss (P&L) impact of all trading and hedging activities.

  • Maintain and update executive dashboards to track key trading and risk indicators.


Person Specifications (Requirements)

Education & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a closely related quantitative field.

  • Possession of professional qualifications such as CFA, FRM, or an equivalent designation will be considered a distinct advantage.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of proven experience in commodity trading, oil & gas, shipping, or financial markets.

  • Prior hands-on exposure to fuel trading, energy derivatives, or corporate risk management frameworks is highly preferred.
