Job Purpose

The Department of Clinical Sciences at the University of Sharjah’s College of Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for an Open Rank faculty position in Pharmacology, beginning in the Fall semester of the 2026/2027 academic year.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching pharmacology and therapeutics to undergraduate medical students within an integrated, Problem-Based Learning (PBL) curriculum. Additionally, the role involves instructing postgraduate courses and conducting high-impact research aligned with the University’s strategic domains. We welcome applicants with a PhD or equivalent who possess an excellent academic record and a passion for medical education.

Main Accountabilities & Expectations

• PBL Instruction: Deliver teaching according to the philosophy of the Problem-Based Learning curriculum and complete required training to serve as an effective PBL facilitator.

• Clinical Integration: Bridge foundational pharmacological knowledge with clinical applications to enhance student understanding.

• Student Support: Provide dedicated academic advising and mentorship to undergraduate students, supporting their academic and professional growth.

• Research & Innovation: Actively participate in research groups, secure research grants, supervise graduate students, and publish findings in reputable journals.

• Assessment & Evaluation: Design, implement, and evaluate student assessment tasks to ensure academic standards are met.

• Institutional Service: Contribute to departmental duties, serve on university committees, and assist with administrative tasks as assigned by the Dean or Department Chairperson.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Education: PhD (or equivalent) in Pharmacology. An MBBS qualification is highly preferred.

• Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in higher education, ideally within a medical or health sciences institution.

• Research Track Record: A proven record of research activity and scholarly publications.

• Technology: Proficiency in computer-assisted and technology-enhanced course delivery.

• Communication: Exceptional oral and written communication skills in English.

• Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to engage effectively with students in both one-on-one advising and group settings.

• Methodology: Experience with Problem-Based Learning (PBL) is considered highly desirable.

• Cultural Competence: A commitment to supporting a diverse and multicultural student body.
